    cannot update without name change

    Hi All

I have been wrestling with an "overlapping" macro for days. I finally gain some "independence" by dropping the invocation from the Home tab in favor of a hot key (ctrl-t). This removed the loading of the "initially created" spreadsheet in the background (no, XLSTART is empty!). In other words spreadsheet 2 would automatically load spreadsheet 1 and spreadsheet 3 did the same thing! Today I discovered, however, that when I attempted to update one of the spreadsheet's macro it would not update unless I saved the spreadsheet to a different file/name. Can someone please explain why this is necessary? Thanks for any help in advance.

    Respectfully,

P.S. This behavior was replicated across 3 systems!

Are you trying to save it as an .xlsx or .xlsm?

    Thanks for the response Marvin.

The file upon loading is .xlsm and when I save it, it is .xlsm. What I explicitly did was change some variables values and resaved. When I reloaded the spreadsheet the old values were still in place. When I changed them again and saved it to a different file name the values remained.

Does this mean you need to close the file for the new values to be saved?

Re: cannot update without name change

    Thanks again Marvin.

Not really sure what you are asking me. The values are reflected immediately after they are set (new literals) when I run the userform/macro. They, however, return to the original literals when I close the file in spite of the fact that I am prompted for saving the changes. If I save the file to a different file the update actually takes place - saving to the same file it does not. It is like the file is write protected. I'm thinking it has something to do with this "overlap" nonsense which has been exhibited ever since I created the macro in the first spreadsheet.
