    Index Match Formula Help

    Good evening all,

I am looking to insert a piece of code that will add an index match formula to a range of cells. I would like the formula to reference declared variables (CatCol and NameCol), which are declared as integers and return the column number in which a specific header is located. I am stuck with the syntax of the formula. Any help would be greatly appreciated. CatCol = 6. NameCol = 8. Not sure if this helps or not.

What is the formula you hope to put into the cell? The formula you have with the variables doesn't have any column listed for index or match.

    You'd need something like this:

Note that CatCol and NameCol would need to be column letters, not column numbers, and need to be repeated (separated by a colon ()

Any variable referring to a row number should be declared as Long

    TMS,

Thanks for the response. I currently have it setup where CatCol is looking for an exact string in the datasets column headers, as the header names should remain the same in my data. Any quick/easy way to either return the column letter in which the string is matched rather than the number or a way to convert the number to a letter systematically? I am trying to make this scalable in case columns are added to the dataset shifting the columns it would be looking at.

    Thanks.
