Targeting dynamic department capacity between two dynamic dates

First post here, I'm looking for help on creating a macro that will:
1. Filter out capacity by department and family. ( I currently have them in a pivot, I'm open to suggestions if there is a better way.)
2. Once capacity is filtered out I need to see if there is capacity open based off a range of dates.I.E: if the date it 10/6 i need to see the capacity from 10/6 to 10/15. My thought is that it would index or match values and ranges to the capacity available tab.
3. Return a color code for the departments that have open capacity.

I've though that maybe i just make drop boxes and with departments and and families and it would return values in the cells. I'm open to any suggestions.

Hopefully I described this well enough, if not I'll ask any questions you might have.
