    Visual Basic Editor Find/Replace disabled

    Hi

I would be grateful if anyone could advise me regarding a problem I have with the Visual Basic Editor. The find function (Ctrl-f) is inoperative, that is, it is possible to select from a menu, use ctrl-f or click the binoculars, but no dialogue box appears, the same applies to replace (ctrl-h) as well. The problem appears to be common to all office programs and is affecting both office 2007 and 2010.

Currently I have a clean install of windows 7 with the pre-installed version of office 2007, however I have also tried installing a copy of office 2007 ultimate with no difference, office 2010 is also a clean install.

I have also tried installing windows 10 and have the same problem.

I have tried googling and searching within the forum but nothing similar shows up.

If anyone has come across anything similar, I would appreciate hearing your comments.

    regards

    Jeff

    Hi,

Is it just the shortcut Ctrl-f key combination or does it happen too when you use the menu?

    Hello Jeff,

This sounds a like Registry issue. I would defragment the registry first. That will probably clear up the issue. If that fails then I would suspect your computer may have been infected by a virus, adware, or malware. In which case, you should scan your boot sector and all files for possible infection.
    Sincerely,
    Leith Ross

    Hi

    Thanks for the replies

It is not possible to access the find function via menu, or shortcut, or clicking the icon.

Unfortunately defragmenting the registry has not made any difference.

The problem exists with a clean windows install from the system restore disk and the default installation of office from that disk, plus a clean install of office 10. I had tried upgrading to windows 10 but to no avail. I will try a clean install of windows 10 to see if there is any improvement in which case the problem is with the restore disk.

    Thanks for your time

    Regards

    Jeff

Re: Visual Basic Editor Find/Replace disabled

    Hello Jeff,

Are you running a 32 bit or 64 bit version of Office? I ask because Windows 7 is a 64 bit OS but can also run 32 bit applications.

If you are running 64 bit applications, some of the old 32 bit features may not be supported or are absent.

The Find and Replace function uses the ComDlg32.dll. Since this a 32 bit Dynamic Link Library module, it could be missing on your machine. Use the system find to locate the module on your machine and let me know what you discover.

    Hi Leith

    Thanks for your comments,

I have now performed a clean install of windows 10 and the Office VBE is functioning as it should. I assume therefore that the problem lies with the recovery disc I was using, as it is the first time I have used it, previously any restore used the restore partition on the hard disk but after upgrading the HDD I needed to use the recovery disk.

As I need to use some programs that do not work under windows 10 I will try reinstalling Windows 7 and see if I can get it to work from a clean install.

Many thanks for your time and your comments

    Regards

    Jeff
