    Autogenerate Day Number?

Hi, I've been trying to pull off something that would make life a little more convenient but I've been unable to achieve it. For example, I have a column which reads "Week of 2/28/2016" in the first row. Each row underneath it are the days (Sunday, Monday, etc). What I would like to happen is for it to autogenerate the day numbers as well as the day name.

The best example I could give is the following list:

    • Week of 2/28/2016
    • 28th - Sunday
    • 29nd - Monday
    • 1st - Tuesday
    • 2nd - Wednesday
    • 3rd - Thursday
    • 4th - Friday
    • 5th - Saturday

Is such a thing possible and what wizardry is needed? It certainly escapes me.

Maybe this could work for you, with formula only.

    Re: Autogenerate Day Number?

I'm encountering some strange problems with all of these. I'm on Excel 2013 if that makes a difference.

Hi, I tried this and it seems to be exactly what I was looking for. However, whenever I attempt use the formula (even on the day.xlsx sheet) it throws me an error and says that there is a typo in the code. If I accept the automatic 'fix' the code it will give the correct date but no day name. The hyphen on the end of the code is replaced with a quotation which I suspect is the problem but I'm unsure how to solve.

This appears to also give me what I'm looking for. It shows up correctly until I click 'Enable Editing' to get rid of protected view and then it changes to all errors; "#VALUE!"

All of these were quick, I really appreciate the help.

    [Edit]
I've attached an example of exactly what I'm trying to accomplish, for clarity.

    Re: Autogenerate Day Number?

Fixed the formula as per your workbook. Note that the ROW()-XX part, XX must be the row number where it starts. See the example from row 19 onwards to understand.

Also updated the formula to include days 11, 12, 13.
