Using Excel VBA, get an "object" from a Word doc and paste it into another word doc.

Office 2013
Trying to get an object (actually, an electronic signature - sign a piece of paper, then scan it and save it in Word) from a Word doc (which is not open), although it could be PDF if it's easier, and paste it near the end of another Word doc, which is open, and having fields populated by VBA.
Spent an hour or so trying to figure it out, but no dice!
Any help appreciated.

Nearly got there, but then realised it would be easier to use fields in the target Word doc.
