Looking for guidance in creating an automated spreadsheet model

I am not looking for specific code but rather some input and guidance in how to structure my model. Basically the sheet needs to pull data from a database, format it, then send the information that pertains to specific people to those people. Then once they respond via email it needs to find, and download the attachment they send back and input it back into the main model. From there it needs to send the pertinent information to a second set of people and download/aggregate the information they send back. Then finally update the aggregated information and send it back to the first group of people and allow them to, at the click of a button, input it back into the database with both rounds of corrections. Basically I am looking for links to code or walkthroughs etc. that people think might be useful for me to look at to help me build the model.

this sounds like one heck of a project. You likely want to look into using MS-Access to do the database front-end stuff like producing the spread sheets and emailing them out, and collecting emailed spreadsheet templates; this is particularly nice since Access VBA can integrate well with Excel and Outlook. You can then also set up the timing of things through the windows task scheduler.

however considering all the work you're likely to put into the project you may just want to write your own custom php or asp interface for the database and avoid some file swapping headaches.
