Well, ask them which version they will be installing and then Google it. If they are right, there is bound to be corroborative evidence online.
When I upgraded to 2013 about a year and half ago, all my saved macros continued to work. FYI. I think scottiex may have the solution.

I have only one macro enabled workbook and it works in 2010 and 2016.

Perhaps your IT department are confusing the online Office applications, which indeed do not support VBA, with an Office 365 subscription. Either that or, as scottiex suggested, they are planning to actively prevent them. Either option is a little worrying to me.
