sequence of numbers to automatically appear when information is entered from one row

hello- I have two questions;

First question: Is there a way or code I can add to a spreadsheet that will auto populate to the next sequence of numbers when entering a date to the first column? I would like that sequence to automatically appear in the highlighted column in the format attached.

I am creating a spreadsheet that multiple users will be using and I am trying to avoid duplicate numbering.... below are the columns to the DRC-2017-001 are the numbers I'd like it to automatically generate under the column "Auto generated BOX #"



Date MEMBER NAME /DEPT CASE# TYPE OF CASE YEAR OF CASE PENDING / COMPLETE LONG DESCRIPTION Auto generated BOX # File Checked out by who? Checked back In

2nd question:
I also plan on adding a condition where we enter information under the column "file checked out" the entire row would highlight to show a file has been checked out. Is that the best way to go about it?

Would you upload a workbook with some examples so that we can understand what you mean by 'the next sequence of numbers. Be sure to explain what numbers you start with, where you enter a new date and what numbers you expect that to generate and where.

Hello Richard- for some reason I cant attach but I'll explain as best as I could on what I would like:
As soon as we enter the DATE under column A the sequence number automatically appears under column H. The sequence I would like to start is ; DRC-2017-0001. (which is the dept., year and sequence number)

The only number that would change chronologically, would be the last 4 numbers (example) next number that would auto populate on the next row would be DRC-2017-0002 when information is entered under the first column labeled " date" column A. As a result of entering the date the column that is labeled "Auto generated BOX #" column H would automatically fill in with the next sequence number and so on....

Then next year, it would change to DRC-2018-0001....
