Question Excel 2016 issue with ExecuteExcel4Macro?

    Hi,
I migrated to Excel 2016 64bit and now I am running into issues with ExecuteExcel4Macro calls.
Simply said, if ExecuteExcel4Macro is called in VBA, Excel crashes completely (...stopped working...restarting...). The call worked perfectly in Excel 2013 32bit.
Could it be a 32bit-64bit compatibility issue?

Background: I am using the function to collect data from closed workbooks. See a simplified standard sample code below, which nevertheless crashes as soon as GetValue = ExecuteExcel4Macro(arg) is executed. Excel 2013 correctly returned the value from cell B2 in Sheet1 in workbook test_wb.xlsx.

Did you face this issue as well? Is there any solution or at least an explanation?

Re: Excel 2016 issue with ExecuteExcel4Macro?

    Hi,

meanwhile I deinstalled the 64-bit version and installed the 32-bit version of Excel (Office) 2016. This solves some problems but not the one described above. If the line "GetValue = ExecuteExcel4Macro(arg)" is executed, Excel 2016 32-bit crashes as well. Anyway, the 32-bit version tells me this before crashing completely:
    Run-time error '-2147417848 (80010108)':
    Automation error
The object invoked has disconnected from its clients.
Does anyone has an idea how to solve or at least workaround it?

    Kuno

Re: Excel 2016 issue with ExecuteExcel4Macro?

I am feeling like a lonely wolf in this forum, talking to myself only.
But finally I found a solution by myself. It's not an issue with 32bit or 64bit versions of Excel or Office 2016, but with the Office installation itself. Try a "Quick Repair" on Office (for me Office365 ProPlus) first. If this does not help, uninstall the complete office package and re-install it again. This worked for me.
