Conditional Data Validation with free type as an option

I dont know if this is possible but I have a field that is dependent on a drop down. If one option is chosen, "Full" then I need the user to be able to type in the full value. If the user selects partial from the drop down then I can calculate the value myself.

    So

How do you set a cell to equal something if one option is selected but free type if another is chosen? I thought I could you an indirect and leave the field for full blank but that does not work.

Any ideas please let me know. Maybe it's not possible.

    Thanks

Will you please attach a SMALL sample Excel workbook (10-20 rows of data is usually enough)? Please don't attach a picture of one (no-one will want to re-type all your stuff before starting).

    1. Make sure that your sample data are truly REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired solution is also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential information is removed first!!

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells. They cause lots of problems!

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment. So, to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: Just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

Can you provide a sample file? When you say you have a field... is that a cell, or is this on a userform?

    Coverage A + 6500 = 2,261,500.

    Where does 2,480,500 come from?

Sorry. Yes that is unclear. IF it says full in the Full or limited required field then I want to free type. in this case I have written 2,480,500. But if it says limited it can only be 2,261,500.

I should've uploaded it with Full selected and not Limited. Does that make sense?

I am not too versed in VBA but something like this should do the trick:

As it is right now, you have to manually run the code.

The code can be modified to run whenever C3 is changed.

I'll work on this and post back unless someone beats me to it.

Thanks Falcondude. I can handle the vba code actually but you're more than welcome to give it a go.I think I was over thinking it.

    Cheers
