can't find file with macro in current subdirectory

I am trying to run macros in three files from a main file. I get an error that says it can't find the files I am trying to run the macros in, even though they are clearly there and the path is correct. when I try to open the files manually I get the MS security warning about the file containing macros and how they may be harmful. in manual mode I just hit the enable macro button. is there a way to emulate this in code so it can open the file and run the macro from the main file?

The macro that you want to run, is that in the workbook you open?
The extension is .xlsx
No macros in workbooks with that extension.

oh I see. I should use the xlsm extension. that worked. thx.
