Rank entries based on values and dates

    Hello,

I need help writing a script that can rank entries based on the rating value (highest to lowest) for each month and year. That is, rank the titles (starting from 1 for the highest rating) for each month and year [e.g. January 2010, February 2010, March 2010,...]. In case two titles have the same rating, both should receive the lower rank (e.g. if two titles come third, both should receive a 4th place. If 3 titles come third, all three should received a 5th place, etc).

Here is an example of what the table looks like:

    Year Month Title Rating Rank
    2015 1 The Arc 80 1
    2015 1 ABC 70 2
    2015 2 The Arc 80 1
    2015 2 John Doe 55 2
    2016 1 The Arc 80 3
    2016 1 The Beast 85 2
    2016 1 The witch 95 1

The file has over 200k entries and includes several years, reason why ranking the titles manually using filters is not a feasible option.

    Thanks in advance!

Re: Rank entries based on values and dates

This sounds like something that can be accomplished with a helper column and a pivot table, but we really need to see a good sampling (don't need all 200K entries - maybe 200 entries will do) of the source data.

Attach a sample workbook. Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

    Remember to desensitize the data.

Click on GO ADVANCED and then scroll down to Manage Attachments to open the upload window.
One spreadsheet to rule them all. One spreadsheet to find them. One spreadsheet to bring them all and at corporate, bind them.

A picture is worth a thousand words, but a sample spreadsheet is more likely to be worked on.
