I used the following vba code to add the date. it is seem to works probably , BUT if i protect the sheet I got the following error :
Run-Time error 1004
Unable to set the NumberFormat property of the Range class.

You have to either unprotect the worksheet before the code is run.
Or write that unprotection/re-protection into the code

How the code is working if the target cell value has not changed? I do not see any target range in your code.
