KeyPress Tally Counter

Hello; i am new to this great-looking forum, and also new at programming vba, macros, etc., although have used earlier versions of excel and used to be adequate in fortran programming. but do not have a clear enough understanding of concepts, syntax, etc., to do a task.

the task is be able to add 1 to tally counters associated with various key words in a couple hundred responses from different groups. i am ok with deciding key words, and counting them, by reading, and then positioning the cursor on the cell with the count to be updated, and then press minimal keys to get the count updated. it would be helpful if i could enter new key words as i see them, and adding to the tally counts of all the words.

i hope have described the problem well enough, and am grateful for any help.

thank you

Attach a sample workbook. Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

Remember to desensitize the data.

Click on GO ADVANCED and then scroll down to Manage Attachments to open the upload window.
One spreadsheet to rule them all. One spreadsheet to find them. One spreadsheet to bring them all and at corporate, bind them.

A picture is worth a thousand words, but a sample spreadsheet is more likely to be worked on.

Hello Bill22X,

Your sample is not at all clear. There is no list or notes about the keywords being looked for. My assumption about the numbers is these are the keyword tallies. But due to the lack of information, it is only a guess.

Please revise your sample workbook and provide a few before and after examples of what the code is to accomplish. If we don't know what you want to do then we cannot help you.
Sincerely,
Leith Ross

Remember To Do the Following....

1. Use code tags. Place
before the first line of code and
after the last line of code.

Re: KeyPress Tally Counter

Thanks; hope to make myself clearer.
don't want excel to count key words, merely to add +1 to any cell i put the cursor on. i will define and find the key words by reading and want excel to only keep track of the counts when i press, say CTRL F15 add 1 to whatever cell the cursor is on.

i tried a routine

but nothing worked. syntax, concepts?

what i want is after activating F15 or some 'hotkey', then anytime ctrl F15 is pressed, 1 is added to the cell adjacent to the one cursor is in. just a simple talley counter in various cells which will add 1 when 'hotkey' is pressed.

my apologies for being so iignorant in these matters.

this is very powerful capabilities but although i seem to feel like i am close to knowing, can't seem to do anything.
i can learn from any examples.

thank you
