Excel crashes when trying to remove static variables

I was able to modify an algoritm to output the data from a range in the worksheet to a text file.

From there I was trying to delete extraneous statements, including ones that weren't need such as this:

Excel crashes immediately. I can "pause" & run the program. But if I "reset" or delete the previous "Static" statements the program crashes.

How may I overcome this?

I was able to resolve the problem by re-saving the file as another .xlsm file, and when it started, made sure macros was disabled.

Then I right clicked on the sheet name on the lower left hand corner, and selected view code. Was then able to remove the 2 static variables, and press the square "reset" icon.

Any other solution would be appreciated.
