    Solver If Function workaround

    Hi!

I want to use piecewise linearization on quadratic equation on my linear programming. I have Wij as a decision variable and would like to incorporated it to 1/(Wij)^2 as a dependent variable. I know I can use a certain range to make the quadratic equation linear, but I am not sure on how to do that in Excel.

I attached my work below, the specified problem located in sheet "correct".

    Thank you in advance!

Looks like you are working with OpenSolver. Perhaps you could contacted the developers, University of Auckland NZ and see if they can offer some help.

    Re: Solver If Function workaround

    Hi Alf,

I tried to do it in Solver as well, but the problem persists because I include non-linear equation in linear programming. One of the solution is that I make the non-linear equation into linear equation by using piecewise linearization, but I dont know how to do it given my described problem.

    Cheers.

I think that the number of cells to change is to big for the excel solver so you need a more powerful solver.

Frontline the makers of the Excel Solver do have a number of more powerful solver that they sell but it's possible to download a trial model of their most advanced models for free and test it for 15 days.

    See link below

    https://www.solver.com/fls-register

The other option is if you are a student then may have the possibility to download an advanced solver model much more powerful than the excel model. See link "welcome-students"

    https://www.solver.com/welcome-students

You could also try to contact the Frontline help desk and see if they have any suggestion on how to solve your problem.
