1 macro to Save as w file name + progressive number & another save as for next data entry

File will have a base name that needs to be maintained
Worksheet has button to link to macro.

    Macro needs to:

Protect sheet and save with base name plus a number (progressive)
    i.e. First save: alsmith1 Second save: alsmith2

and then do another save (with certain named cells unprotected)

File name to be base file name plus “Ready for update” plus last progressive number plus one
i.e. After the first save, the file name would be “alsmith Ready for update 2”.
After the second save, he name would be “alsmith Ready for update 3”

It seems that you are asking for a complete solution from scratch, rather than asking a question to get you past a sticking point. What have you done to get started?

The file can be saved as "work partially done" or "work all done". It normally takes several partials before the final.
Button currently on the sheet user has to click on double checks critical parts of the entry and then asks the user to save the file just as I have shown in my request for help.
I have another button which runs a macro on the "Ready" file which totals some numbers, clears some cells and gets the form ready for the next posting of data, etc.
    But, I am stuck.
While I can do a "save as" macro, I do not know how to add a number to the name - nor do I know how to add a word but I would like to in order to automate it as there have been some errors.
Good question - Believe I understand your thinking - Am i giving a person a fish or am I teaching him/her to fish?
Believe me - you are teaching which I appreciate very much!!!!

When you response came in I was considering the generation of the following as a new post, with exmples at the bottom.
Should I? - This is what I would post:

Have a master file which user saves – using name of job - with no data entries.
Want to automate the saving process after data is entered with a “SAVE” button on spreadsheet which would

First time saved via button –
number 1 added to name and then saved with ready at the end of the name.

Second time (and all other) saves via the button
file saved with ready removed but number increased by one and then, like above, saved with ready at the end.

    NOTE –
ALSO WANT SHEET TO BE PROTECTED (no password) WHEN SAVED WITH JUST THE NUMBER - BUT NOT WHEN READY IS IN THE NAME

    EXAMPLE OF FILE NAMES

    First saving:
    Johnson1
    and then
    Johnson1Ready

    Second saving: Johnson1Ready saves as
    Johnson2
    and then
    Johnson2Ready

    Third saving: Johnson2Ready saves as
    Johnson3
    and then
    Johnson3Ready

Please attach your file. The paper clip icon does not work for attachments. To attach a file, under the text box where you type your reply click the Go Advanced button. On the next screen scroll down and click on Manage Attachments, which will show a pop-up window to Select and Upload a file. Then close the window.
