Hot keys inside a macro

I'm trying to create a macro that uses Ctrl + : to stamp today's date in a cell. When I record the macro it records the date that I recorded the macro, not the key strokes "Ctrl :" How do I make the macro use the date that I ran the macro instead of the date I recorded it? Thanks!
