filling cells with formula hangs

Without seeing your sample file, it's hard to say; however, you may want to check the last row.

In other words, you may think the last row is row 100, but for some reason the usedrange in your spreadsheet thinks the last row is 900,000.

What happens when you select Ctrl + End? Does it go to the end of your data or further?

I'm not VBA expert, but my guess the formula is calculating all the way down the 300,000 rows is dragging your sheet down with it.
