Excel pasting copied text when double clicking on a cell

Hi

One of our users has a problem which has been going on for a while now. When they copy a piece of text from the same excel spreadsheet or from something else like a filename etc, they paste it into an empty cell in excel. Excel freezes after that, then if they double click on a cell that contains text the text which they copied and pasted shows up in the cell which they double clicked on, thereby overriding the text that was in the cell before they double clicked on it. This continues, so they click on another cell and the text shows up again and they need to remove the text. The only way to stop this behavior is to close the excel file and open it again.


We use Microsoft 365 on the Azure platform and Windows server 2016.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

I'm using Excel 2007 and have experienced the same thing once or twice.

Wonder if you could post your workbook with code for review ? Perhaps it is the code ?
If you do post ... do not include any confidential information.

I couldn't tell if the issue was from the code or something else, also it doesn't happen all the time.

The workbook exceeds the Max file size allowed to upload attachments.
Is there another way I can attach the file?

If the workbook contains a ton of data on the sheets, you can delete that contents but leave just a few rows for example.

I am unable to reproduce the same error here.

I believe the client's issues remain with the installation of Excel on their computer and/or the O/S . Especially since it is
confined to a single client.

Yeah I tried to reproduce the same error several times but I was not able to. The user said the issue does not happen all the time. The problem is only in that excel file, no other user has reported a similar problem in excel, that's why the only thing I can think of is that it might be a problem with the code.

No, unable to reproduce the error here. Tried numerous times on all sheets.

Have you already tried sending that client a brand new copy of the workbook ?

I wanted to send them a new copy of the workbook but because the workbook has VBA script in it, I decided not to send them a new one so as to not break something else in the workbook. The code was written by someone else and they no longer work at the same place as the client so I thought I should try and find a solution to the problem.

You could reverse engineer a new workbook. Ask them for a copy of theirs and insure all the code you will have in the new
workbook matches the code in their copy.
