VBA to launch VBS file then pass variable created within VBS back to VBA

I did search and find one very active older thread about this, but some of the key links in it were dead so I wasn't able to test the solution there. That one got very complex, and I think what I'm attempting to do is more straightforward, but have not been able to find this exact scenario online.

First question most people in other forum posts asks is why I would need to call VBS, why not just use VBA? The answer is that in this case the VBS is interacting with the SAP GUI to download a new data set, then the VBA manipulates that new data. To my knowledge, SAP GUI cannot be interacted with using VBA.

Pretty sure there is a simple way to do this, and would be grateful if someone would share if so!
