How to deduct a set number from an input in the same cell

Sorry if this sounds too basic - BUT i need to write a small formula to enable me to input a single number in a cell and automatically deduct from that value one or 2

this is in relation to a basic eclectic golf spreadsheet - for example if a person receives a single shot on a hole i want to enter a score of six and have the cell show 5

    thanks ever so Geoff

Hi cosmic and welcome to the forum,

I've got a few Eclectic spreadsheets. See if this one does what you want.
Classic or Cove Eclectic Newest Better.xlsm

If I remember correctly, you will need the Handicap of each player and the Hole Handicap of each hole to calculate the Net score on each hole.
If the attached doesn't help then attach an example of what you have and I can find that formula to calculate Net scores.

    Hey cosmic,

You will need to keep the gross score for each round and then calculate the Net/Eclectic score in another cell. If you try to put a formula in the cell you are editing you will get a "circular reference" error message. You really need to attach a sample workbook of what you have. That is the best way to get help.

I think you will also need a scorecard of the course showing each hole's handicap. Along with this you need to have a course handicap for each player. This is how the net score is calculated from the gross.
