Question Using Excel for inventory management.

    Hi

So as the title states i'm looking to do inventory management for a small car business. Right now i have some code that enables me to timestamp date and time everytime i scan one of our barcodes that i made for every product that we currently we have in stock. What i really want to make is a system that first of all (timestamp when barcode is scanned, solvedISH) and look for exsisting barcode/data in a different sheet (where all the information is about said product including "quantity") basically when barcode is entried in my coulmn where it already timestamps in the second column and then i would like it to take that new data/barcode and search in my "inventory sheet" to find a match then reduce its quantity by 1 (-1). I think this might be a good introduction for this, looking forward for any answers thanks in advance!

You'll need a macro to do this since you want to change a cell automatically rather than just read and calculate values.

Is the bar code captured in the same cell every time you want to update the stock list?

Upload the workbook so that we can see the request in context.

Yeah i figured i would need something like a macro. I came close one time to figure it out by linking the cells to their number something like you said, but it did not quite work out so now i'm here for some answers.

Here comes an example of my workbook it's almost the same layout just some not needed sheets.

Barcode scanners are simple little things - they generally act like a 2nd keyboard.

Attached has a 'Scanner' tab in the ribbon with 1 (small) button to load a userform. There are only 2 controls, a TextBox and a button to close it.

Make sure the cursor is in the textbox and try the scanner. It should read the input and update the inventory and the history sheet. You probably won't even see the textbox update ...

Chances are good it'll work as long as your real scanned numbers match those in the example workbook as you cannot manually enter the barcode.
