Toolbar Design Mode Off but Combo and button in design mode

In the application I have been working on an explainable problem appeared. The program had been working as expected until yesterday morning. When I opened the application up and placed my cursor over the command button and/or the combo box, the four way arrow indicating being in Design Mode appeared. I closed the app and opened using the shift key to view the Developer Toolbar. It was in Design Mode so I turned it off in the toolbar, saved the app and closed it. When I opened the app again, The Design mode in the Toolbar was inactive but the four way arrows still showed up on the two objects.

I am baffled and appreciate any suggestions for solving the problem.

This can't obviously happen when using form buttons rather than ActiveX buttons !

Nothing else to say according to your picture guessing challenge except to restart from a backup …
