    Highlight multiple cells

    Hi,
I have a CSV file with a column of text "see attached"
I would like to scan barcodes on physical assets and highlight the equivalent barcode text in the CSV file if it exists.
I can highlight one matched barcode but I'm unsure how to keep the previously matched cells highlighted.
    Thanks

    Re: Highlight multiple cells

I make barcodes at work all the time using Excel
There is usually a font that you download and you have to find one that is compatible to your scanners.
The one I use is IDAutomationC39XS
That said, when I make a barcode it has to be read between asterisks.
If you wanted to create a barcode SCAN in excel you would have to not only make it say *SCAN* that it would have to be in the font as I mentioned.

    see attached.

    Regards.

(I don't know if you will be able to see the font I used, you may have to download it, but the principle is the same)

    Side note:
A CSV file is simply a text file. It contains no formatting. this is why you cannot highlight and share.

    Re: Highlight multiple cells

Thanks thenewkid for your prompt reply however barcodes are not the issue it's how do I keep previously located fields highlighted?
When I scan another asset it only highlights the new asset in the spreadsheet

    Re: Highlight multiple cells

If you expect Excel to remember previous values, you'll need VBA. If that's OK, I'll move the thread for you. Otherwise, you'll need a rethink.

    Let me know.

    Re: Highlight multiple cells

Could you use conditional formatting with a vlookup?
For instance, if you scanned the barcodes in to column F and applied this conditional format to the codes in column A to highlight them.
    Formula: copy to clipboard

Thanks ByteMarks would you mind explaining how I add the vlookup formula to conditional formatting?

    Re: Highlight multiple cells

    1. Select the cells to be highlighted
    2. Hold Alt, then press H L N in sequence to bring up the add new format dialog.
    3. From "Select a Rule Type", choose "Use a formula to determine which cells to format".
    4. Enter the earlier formula the the box "Format values where this formula is true:"
    5. Click the "Format..." button.
    6. On the Fill tab, choose a highlight colour
    7. Click OK
    8. Click OK
