Re: Sorting, Counting a parts list

I see you changed post #192 to this:

Not wishing to create conflicts.
Not half!!! I'm sick of the blame game. Look around at the average length of threads here: the length of yours is entirely down to you and your chaotic approach. It certainly is NOT of my doing.

I see you are now failing to read John's posts properly and act on them as requested. As you seem determined to continue in this haphazard fashion, I have withdrawn my assistance as stated in post #197 and I shan't be changing my mind this time.

As I mentioned before, you just aren't working with us. I've invested too much time in this already and being blamed for the length of time it's taking to resolve is no motivation to continue. You are flogging a dead horse. Good luck with the project.

No idea as this (appears to b) a 365 error: click "Close" as it appears to have done the "repair". The only named ranges I used are VENDOR and VENDORS.

Re: Sorting, Counting a parts list

Having an opportunity to get back to this topic:

Why did the part# and value not carry over to the PO?

If you look at the MAIN Sheet these are listed, but not on any of the others?

The reason for asking is that one of my Vendors is not able to provide the parts, now I must change those parts to a different Vendor. The alternate vendor doesn't use the same part numbers, they use the values.

I don't know what you are referring to as both PO sheets (in the test file provided) have the Vendor Part number and Cost.

John

After a great deal of review I have reformatted the POWER SHEET and want to use this format for all SHEETS
Issue is hidden formulas and etc is playing havoc upon doing this. I can only hope you can see these issues, I can't begin to give you a written explanation. I think we need to remove all formulas and etc that have placed into spreadsheet and reapply. That would include Row 4

Correct these errors in the file:

1. Extra row added into "POWER" so remove: row 3 HAS to be the headings
2, No header row in "Filter"

It will then work.

NO further work from me after being "shouted" at in your post.

Re: Sorting, Counting a parts list

This recent work began due to missing OEM Part Numbers for unknown reasons.

When I went back to the individual sheets and attempted to input the missing parts the part magically appeared in the row. For instance Rows 64 & 65.

Why are the Row Numbers not in sequence, is this created by my sorting? Now I see it is simply jumping from Row 4 to Row 9, Row 20 to Row 27, Row 31 to Row 36 and so forth

Re: Sorting, Counting a parts list

I have no idea why your are postingg all these circuit layouts and what you expect me to do. If you have been changing the data, then that is for you to resolve.

For example "POWER" line 3 has "OEM Part #"," Value"," ......" etc in the file you posted..

Right and Left Channel Boards should be identical. The data in the MAIN Sheet has been extremely distorted:
The code does not change the data in any worksheet so I do not know to what you are referring - other than the fact that you state that you sorted the data.

...... the fact that many of the sheets are FILTERED ? [so no data is missing, simply hidden]

If my parts are hidden, how do I know if the part is included?

Is this process difficult for you to understand:
1. Enter part information for each board into each sheet A,B,C & D manual entry
2. Search and enter replacement part information. E, F & G manual entry
3. Define a part number count. I, J, K, L, M & N Excel Sort and Count
4. Create a Purchase Order for parts. Purchase Order Sheet Excel internal transfer of data

Every Row must be verifiable throughout the complete process.

In addition, Each Board needs it's own sheet and a template for rows 1, 2 & 3 created that is a constant from sheet to sheet.
When a new sheet is created the template loads to be consistent.

I've just seen your condescending comments at Post 232. It's time you took a break from the forum, while you consider the language you are using to people who FREELY give their time to help you out. You don't own them, or pay them. They do this for fun and a bit of a challenge. The last thing anyone needs is interacting with an angry head.

One week ban.

Final warning. One more and the ban will be permanent.

As it's visual - so just opening eyes - if you can't obviously see the obvious
neither remember what you have done then stop to use Excel, do no waste anymore your time !
And by the way as Excel does not seem the appropriate tool according to your project …
Or maybe it's for a homework, can't be a pro stuff.

Please accept my deep felt apology for the poor choice in wording. The frustration level did exceed all reasonable thinking and I will try very hard to be aware of this in the future.
I never intended to be rude to anyone in this process and did state on multiple occasions my gratitude.

Administrative Note:

You need to include code tags around your code.

I've added them for you this time. Posting code between
Please Login or Register to view this content.
tags makes your code much easier to read and copy for testing, and it also maintains VBA formatting.

Please see Forum Guideline #2 about code tags,

... where they have always been: see "Main" in attached.

Look at Sheet "Rear": you will see the row numbers are BLUE which indicates the data has been FILTERED as do the "down arrows" at the top of each column.

The "down arrow" on "Vendor" has a dot which indicates this is the column being filtered. Click on this arrow and you will see which vendor has been filtered

Click on "Sort & Filter" then "Filter" and all will be revealed.

Actually, no. It isn't... as you guessed! The author of those words has had a couple of warnings about language choices.

Re: Sorting, Counting a parts list

AliGW you had offered at one time a method to count the part numbers for a total of each. John provided a Macro for this and that is just not working for me. Could you please provide your solution? I just want a count on each sheet and forget all that PO stuff.

Trying to help you in this thread was a complete nightmare, so I am afraid I shan’t be attempting to assist you any further. Hopefully someone else will feel willing to do so. I am sorry, but it’s a "no" from me.

You should know that supplying images is useless so, if you want help, please supply a workbook showing expected results.

If the macro is now not working, what has changed?

Count how many times a part appears in the list and provide a total of each

Columns A:G are values
Columns I:N are extracted values

I manually extracted the information in I:N, my goal is to have a formula to extract the info A:G and place into I:N

Once you open the file and look at it, I have several comments to make.

These changes have come from working with the previous sheets and understanding that what I asked for needed additional thoughts.

https://1drv.ms/x/s!Ahn4hs1BmKfvhJI5...yLfxg?e=4mVd0O

Columns A:E is manually entered data gathered from hardcopy OEM Electronic Schematics

Columns G:NA is data extracted from A:E. Needs to be shown as sorted and counted

I have randomly colored the rows, if there is a systematic method for row colors that would be nice. I find the colors help to visually track from row to row and column to column.

i have not inserted any formals or anything outside of numbers and letters for each cell. If you find something hidden please remove.

Why do some cells have a black triangle in the top left corner?

FYI: Resistor values are shown with a K which represents thousands and M which represents Millions

If you are using this in the browser version of Excel, then you are not going to be able to use VBA for it - is that whey John's code has 'never worked'???

Instead of a link to your OneDrive, provide an attachment as you alwasy have done before, please. Thanks.

The posted file bears no resemblence whatsoever with the file on which the VBA was based - providing the data for a Vendor PO - so I am not surprised it does not work.

You are back to square one as I (and I suspect any other respondent) have no idea what it is now required.

Re: Sorting, Counting a parts list

The data you supplied is (IMHO) completely out of sync:

In "TONE"/"MAIN AMPS" Column C "Volts/watts" is not numeric but TEXT which I think is actually TYPE.

Equally TYPE in column I ("Resistors") is frequently "CF" but does not appear in "erroneous" column C (see sheet "TONE").

If Data is OK, then COUNTIFS function should suffice.

e.g. in J5 of "Power Supply"

I should insert this formula at each count location? Maybe you could break the Formula down as too the purpose of each item in the Formula?

Do I need to click on each individual cell to convert or is there a way to change all at once?

Re the formula: why don't YOU make the effort to understand COUNTIFS: there are numerous explanations and examples on the internet.

and sheet "MAIN AMPS" needs amending.

I'm pretty sure if you want a count to populate, try starting the formula off with "="

Only in that column. Something must change to use in:
P5
U5
Z5
AE5
AK5

Yes, the references need to change. Example, in P5, you only have two lookup references versus the three you used in J5. Copy the formula from J5 to P5 and then place your cursor in the formula bar. All of the references will highlight by color.

Follow those colors and adjust the references to fit.

How I interpret the formula, but 99% sure my thoughts are incorrect

COUNTIFS
($A:$A,"R*", Look at column A and find all R's
$B:$B,$G5, Look at column B place value in G5
$C:$C,$H5, Look at column C place data in H5
$D:$D,$I5) Look at column D place data in J5

Re: Sorting, Counting a parts list

Here's the definition of the function:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/...c-aa8c2a866842

Excel will count:

1. Cells in A that start with R.
2. Cells in B that match G5.
3. Cells in C that match H5.
4. Cells in D that match I5.

It will count only rows in A:D where ALL FOUR criteria are met.

Yes, I agree with Marc L - use the Filter function. I suggest you turn the data into an Excel table (Insert table) and then filter the necessary columns until you get exactly what you need. You can then save these filters by making a coy of the tab and changing the name so you have a record of each filter.
