Question Dividing rows into separate Excels

    Hello,

I've got an Excel file where row 1. has questions in multiple collumns and rows 2-1000 have employees' answers to the questions. One row represents one employee and their answers.

I would like that every single employee would have their own Excel with the questions and their own answers. So, the first Excel would be row 1 and row 2, the second Excel would be row 1 and row 3 etc until the final Excel would be row 1 and row 999. How can I make this happen?

I would also like to name these Excels by the employee's name without having to manually input 999 Excel headlines. Would this be possible?

    Thank you!

    Welcome to the forum.

This will require VBA - shall I move the thread for you?

Could you upload a sample workbook (make up names and a few questions for this purpose) so that the layout of what you're working with is clear. I can have a look in a coupe of hours when I'm free.

The only other point- you could be looking at 1000+ worksheets. You are certain that you don't want to use something like pivot tables or filtering of a master sheet to get the relevant employee's data?
Excel 365 user. To unblock a downloaded macro-enabled workbook, go to your "Downloads" folder > right click on the workbook name > click 'Properties' > check the 'Unblock' checkbox. You can now open the workbook.

Re: Dividing rows into separate Excels

    Hi,

Great thank you! I've attached an Excel, the first sheet is how the raw data looks like (faka data, fake names) and the 2nd and 3rd sheet are how I would want the end result to look like (if the sheets were separate Excels).

And yes all of the employee data needs to be collected, so I have to have that many Excels... fun times. Maybe I can squeeze a 100 names off that don't have anything other on the row than their name.

    Hi,

The attached workbook should get you started. It doesn't do any error checking- the most likely cause of an error is if there are two or more employees with thr same name.

I've added a basic conditional formatting to the sample date column A to highlight duplicate names- if your data shows duplicates, you'd need to change one of the duplicate names e.g. Sam Brown2 or whatever.

Leave a message here if there's something else that needs addressing.

    Hi,

This looks great, a big thank you! My computer probably won't be able to execute a command this big so I need to wait a couple days before trying it, but I might get back to you!

Thanks for this as well, I might try both solutions :D. Would you say this is easier than the other solution posted here?
