    Angry Relative paths for links

    Hi all
I am having a few problems that should be easy to solve but are proving to be difficult.
All I want to do is, have data from an excel table copy itself into a table in a word document.
and when I update the excel table the data in the word document automatically updates.
    sounds simple.

First the excel file and the word file are in the same folder.

I have copied and pasted (special) the table from excel into word using the linked path.
The data in the excel table is copied into the table in the word document.
I change the data in the excel table and the data in the word document updates.
    Excellent!!

Then I want to copy this folder and rename it so that I can use the same format for different projects.
and then it all goes to custard.
Because the link is not relative even when I copy the folder containing both files.
When I update the new excel table it does not update the data in the new word document,
The table in the new document is still linked to the original excel table not the new excel table.

What I need is to link the two tables with a relative path so that no matter how many times I copy and rename the folder, the link between the two tables in the folder stays linked.
    I hope this makes sense
    any help gratefully received

oh i should have said there are over 50 separate tables in the word document to link to corresponding excel tables.

    Re: Relative paths for links

    Hi,
Moving from one place to another is not a problem but renaming with moving is the issue.
After copying moving and renaming, you must paste the link to keep updated.
The reason is that Excel no longer detects the original details.
Just with the new file, right-click the item in the Excel and copy it, then go to the word file and click it (it will be selected as a whole) then paste special and choose the link as below:
This will keep the format and update as regular.
But the final step must be done.
