not a safe method, but the usedrange property , if the address is A1 and the
cell is blank. Doesn't work if yuo populate a sheet and then clear it.
you could use the COUNTA function perhaps?

it work well if there is no character,
but if current document contains chart or picture, usedrange's address is A1
and the cell is also blank, but it is not a blank document
how can I deal with this case?

Depends what you define as "blank".
What about pictures, formats, cell borders, validation, background, VBA
code, cell comments, document properties........

blank document means that there is nothing to print
in other word, user can not see something. in excel, when user clicks the
file menu and select the print menu to print current document, if current
document is a blank document, then a dialog will be show up to tell user that
there is nothing to print.
