VBA pulling data from other workbooks?

I realize with links in cells its simple to pull data from other workbooks. But what about with VBA? Is it possible?

If so, how?

Furthermore, if so, will the links be relative as well or does vba force you to use absolute references?

Any further info about links in VBA like this is greatly appreciated.

In addition to using ADO as suggested,

The fastest method is usually to have your code enter the linking formula in
a cell/cells, then get the returned data and clear the formula if
appropriate. There is no built in support in VBA for linking to a closed
workbook. There are methods using xl4macro commands, but these are
generally slower.

Depends on what you are doing and how much information you need to retrieve
and whether the information is organized as a database
