The answer to both these is no, not with normal native Excel properties and controls, however that is not to say that it cannot be done. Ivan F Moalas site has a download available here that shows some awesome tricks with userforms, on of which is altering the transparency. Alter the transparency a number of times over a second or so will give the illusion that the usreform is fading out. A word of warning – the code required to generate this is intensive, so depending on the ultimate application you may decide against going down this route :
