Timer in Excel

Hi All and Happy New Year,
I am faced with attempting to create a timer whereas once some one has open an excel workbook (work_book open) they have say 5 minutes, after that a flashing message box would warn them that the they have the file open, and if they wish to remain in the file they will have to reset the timer. by clicking on a button.
