search through dates

i have a matrix (spreadsheet) with cells which have dates in them, i would like to search through these dates and fill in another cell if any of those dates are in Janaury and to repeat this throught to December and then tocompare them with 'today' and if these dates have passed

any suggestions?

please help!!!
