Altering fields in MS Access based on contents of xls file

Hi all, hope someone can help with this.

I have an excel sheet with a list of customer id's.

I have a ms access database with the full details of all customers.

I need to run a query somehow that takes the customer id from the excel sheet and where it finds a match in the access table, update a column called nomail in that access table to a value of '-1' without the quotes.

    Thanks in advance,

You would create a linked table in Access to the excel file and it imports all the data in automatically and updates it automatically.

Dont pull this guys website up at work haha! Its womens under clothing...hope the warning helps...

    More questions

    Hi, thanks for replying.

Ok, I have linked the xls sheet into the access db, so far so good.

The thing is, on the excel sheet, its not ALL the customer numbers, just a small selection and on the access part, there are many columns whilst on the excel sheet theres just 1 so i dont think i can just import and update without possibly losing some data, or can I?

The scenario is that on the excel sheet, the list of customer numbers is people who we have tried to deliver a catalogue to but its been returned two or more times to us.

We have to alter their details in the access database to exclude them from future mailings hence the need to check the access db and spreadsheet for matching customer ids and where we find one, put a -1 in the nomail column in the access database.

I hope that all makes sense, as mentioned we are very grateful for your help.

    Regards,

    Steve.
