Messages box as warning for changes withing a range

The finance model I'm working on, pulls up data from a number of different departments, and many different 'owners' of the workbooks we use. A problem that occurs quite often is one of these owners for instance inserting a column and throwing out all our external references, so we have to spend time repairing the links.

What I'd like to do, is put a little code in all their that will pop up a message box saying "This range is used by blah blah blah please contact... (or please open fin01.xls so the links are updated)" and the option proceed or cancel but only for things like inserting rows/cells/colums, or anything that would change my range. Data will be being added to the cells on a regular basis so just protecting the cells/worksheet wouldn't work.

Is there a code I could use? Also would it be possible for this to work even when they have marco's disabled on their individual machines?

Aye it could be done like that, but I'm sure someone would just remove it, passwording it off would no doubt add to the anti accountant animosity that already exists too! There's often genuine reasons for them amending it, like adding new customers etc. The message would be more as a reminder, that in doing this is will effect others, and hopefully it will save us having to trace all the errors when our model callapses!

Just a simple reminder to open the next workbook in the 'tree' if they change the ranges could save hours of error tracing at period end. Error tracing is this afternoons task, so expect some more hopelessly 'noob' questions later.

As always thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks Roy, is there anyway to narrow that down to a specific range of cells?
