This works great in the USA
when I try to open a file in China it errors 1004 at this point:

when I record a macro opening a file in China it opens the file but when running the recorded macro I get the same error. It can't find the file it just recorded opening.

    Any ideas?

    To add

I’m connecting via remote access to the computer in China

If I manually open the file I want to open, close it then run the code to open it, it USUALLY opens.

If I manually open TWO files I want to open, close them both then run the code twice to open them, it USUALLY opens only the last file I opened.
It’s like it’s remembering a location of one recent file.

It's definitely a sporadically occurring error.

I noticed in the Windows Explorer the Chinese characters meaning My Computer are visible in front of the E:
Adding these characters to the Filename doesn’t help.

I have also received a message that some of the filenames contain [], however one of the filename contain brackets, unless something in the Chinese version of Excel is adding them.

    Hello carstowal,

I have done some digging around on your problem. The results so far are nothing. Maybe the problem is Unicode related. Chinese uses Unicode where American systems can be either Unicode or ANSI character sets. What version of Windows are you using?

    Sincerely,
    Leith Ross

Have you verified what it's listing as the filename.
