Copying colored cells to new file

I have been trying to combine eight different pages of information that has color coded information highlighting certain cells in different rows and columns. When I try to copy and paste one page to another file the numbers and information copy but not the color coding or highlighted format. Is there a trick to this or am I missing something obvious!!!
