Automatically calculate and color rows/columns

Does anyone know what code I would use to automatically calculate the number of rows and the number of columns, and then change the background color of every other row?

I have spreadsheets that I make for work, some may have 10 rows and some may have 16,000 rows, I want to be able to determine the number of rows and color just the even ones. Same thing with the columns, some may have 5 others may have 25 columns; I want the color to go to the last column only.

Is there a way to automatically select the current workbook and sheet? Some of my tables are already named and I would like to be able to open them and run the macro to format them.
