sigma (symbol)

Hello,

I am using a German system. I think with English one it may also be the same case.

I create a Database file and certain cells in first three columns are filled with the desired terms. This is done by using a macro (stored as an Add-In) and triggered by a Menu button. (This Macro creates a new file, then writes the first three columns and finally pastes data from other files in the folder in coulmns D onwards)

In cells C22 (please see the attached file) I enter the symbol for Stress (σ) but after the macro writes, it appears as an question mark (?) and when I tried to change the font to symbol it converts to 's' but not sigma.

I faced same problem with Square root symbol (√) in cells C27, C28 ... but I wrote a macro that selects it and changes font to symbol but this does not works for sigma(σ) can some one suggest some procedure to achieve this goal.
