Finding starting point of chart plot area

I want to add some vertical lines to an Excel chart, so I started off by finding the dimensions of the chart and plot area, using the following:

My problem is with the PlotArea.Left -- If I relocate the plot area to the far left, I get a value of 0, which is the left edge of the Y-axis scale. The actual plot area is further to the right.

How do I find the left edge of the actual plot area?

It maybe easier to use additional data series to add vertical lines to the chart rather than shapes.

Can you post you chart with example lines.

Thanks Andy, but I also want to add some text boxes associated with the lines, so the location is important. I will post an example, but here is a brief explanation:

The chart plots river level on the Y axis against river mile on the X axis. Landmarks at various river miles need to be added to make the chart easier to understand. (River miles are the distance along the winding river measured upstream from the point that the river discharges into ocean, lake or the next river)

So you want to do something like this

If you need more help post a workbook with the values rather than a picture.
