    using Ctrl+M as shortcut

    i have tried using the letter M as a shortcut key (because it is to activate a "Move" function) but unfortunately it doesn't work. I gather from this that not all of the keys are available as shortcut keys presumably because they already have function.
    Is there a way around this? and/or is there a list somewhere of the available shortcut keys?

    thanks Bob, Yes I could do that. But in this code I use a number of shortcuts all using just ctrl+ a single key and this would create non uniformity for the user. I would change them all to Ctrl+shift but as I currently use the letter D this one won't assign to ctrl+shift

    It works fine for me as a shortcut - how are you assigning it?

    I'm assigning it by selecting Tools-> Macros -> Options then selecting the key

    You haven't got the Caps Lock key on when you do it have you? That would convert it to Ctrl+Shift+M automatically.

    no I haven't got caps lock on. But for more information it does accept the letter m as a shortcut but when using it the program is not run and the original excel function for Ctrl+m (select the cell below) actions

    I can't find Ctrl+m as a standard Excel navigation (or any other) shortcut. Perhaps it's being assigned elswhere using OnKey?

    Are you sure you don't have it assigned to another macro? I have never heard of Ctrl+m as a built-in Excel shortcut.

    No I've just double checked through all my macro's and none of them (except the one I want) have Ctrl+M assigned. I'm sure I have read somewhere that this is a sortcut that selects cells but I can't remember where i read it

    To clarify what it actually does is select the current cell and the one below and for each press fo ctrl+M it increases the selection by one cell further down

    I just went through keyboard shortcuts in Help, and it isn't there. Maybe in your Personal.xls?

    If you restart Excel with a virgin workbook and disable macros (set security to high), does Ctrl+m still do that?

    Well, as I said, I've never heard of it and I've just checked the Help files and it's not listed there either. Do you have any add-ins that might be providing the shortcut?

    Edit: you seem to be getting these hints in stereo now!

    Ah solved it. I just closed down my worksheet and opened a blank sheet to find it does the same. Then realised I have "Ultimate add ins" installed as an add in. I have removed that and it has cured it.

    So sorry for wasting your time
