I have a spreadsheet with 2 cells (C8 and E8). I want to add the dollar amounts in both of them together and get a running total (year to date) in E8. Would this be done in a VBA and if so what would it be? Any help would be appreciated

You can't get the result of a formula in a cell that is part of the formula - this creates a circular reference.
Attach an example worksheet
Hope that helps.

Here is an example of the spreadsheet
C8 E8
44.00 54.00
I want E8 to add the 2 amounts and give me a total.
Is this possible?
No, it would be a circular reference. Here's some example YTD formulas
Thanks for the link to the YTD. I copied it and will have to change around my spreadsheet I guess, even though I really don't want to.
Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it.
You can attach the workbook but I can't see why you want to overwrite the total cell.
I've attached part of the spreadsheet for you. See if that helps you see what I'm trying to do.
Thanks,
Surely it's best to keep the monthly data for reference as the example I gave you does.
