I assume there's a database (or pivot table?) solution for my task, which is to detect the days, weeks and months within a very long table, and obtain the totals of the data therein.

Create a Pivottable & use the Group feature to group by the time periods

Thanks. Unfortunately I've never mastered the Pivot Table. When I begin the process it wants to do things I don't want, such as giving the sum of the ticket numbers etc. Or if I try to set up trades by date, it wants to create the dates in a horizontal table rather than vertical. I realize that dragging and dropping the fields is supposed to help me arrange the table as I'd like but I get what looks like branching...
In any case, could someone help by giving me a start on the worksheet?
If I see one or two examples I'm sure I can take it from there. (Excel 2007).
I appreciate any help.
