    Randomize text paragraphs within Excel?

    Hello!!

i had a question, hopefully its possible!

Imagine I have a 500 word article, split into eight paragraphs. Each para is 'contained', ie its like a little article within an article, so paras dont run on between each other when you read them.

I also have two different variations of the same article.

If I enter each para into an excel cell, like this (where 1a is the first para of the first version of the article, 2c is the third para of the second version of the article etc):

    1a, 1b, 1c, 1d, 1e, 1f, 1g, 1h, 2a, 2b, 2c, 2d, 2e...etc

HOW do I randomize these fields so that I have a different spin on each article, for example

    1a, 2c, 3d, 1e, 3b, 3f, 2h, 1g
    2f, 1c, 1d, 3a, 2e, 2g, 1h, 3b

so I am interchanging both the order of the paras and the versions as I go. This way I can end up with a large number of completely different articles. I would not want any repetition in a result though and ideally a maximum of three paras from a single version in the spun result, ie I would not want 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d, 1e, 2f, 3g, 3h

Once they are complete I would want to export as a word or txt document, with a unique file name and of course I would be creating a macro to automate it all.

    Is this doable?

    Thanks SO much

This workbook contains an answer. There are a few manual steps required to make it work. Everytime something changes in the worksheet the values in columnA change. When you are ready to get the paragraph order, just copy and pastespecial->values into columnC, then sort columnC in order. This doesn't help with keeping things out of order, but it is random. If you don't like the order, you can try again. A copy and paste to Word would probably work. Just an idea. My daughter wants me to add a smiley.

Thanks very much for the reply and the file, but I am afraid I am being a little vague today. Could you elaborate on what you are suggesting?

    MANY thanks
