    check if a range is blank relative to current cell in vba

    I know I could do this outside of vba, but I need a vba solution

    the above just gives a value# error. Where am I going wrong?

    Hello sark666,

    You have already define the variable therange as a Range Object. This variable now references the range to the right of the active cell as the next 32 columns in the same row. You don't need Range(therange) to reference this range.

    Doh! thanks that should have been obvious

    now that I can test it, it seems to work for the most part.

    but if I clear (or fill) the adjacent cells and press f2 on the cell and enter it updates, but if I force a recalc by pressing ctrl alt f9 i get a #value error

    is there a reason for this?

    nm, I copied it to a new worksheet and it seems fine.

    I read to do it this way vs isempty()

    Is there any reason to use one method over the other?

    Hello sark666,

    The CountA function will returns results for the specified range. IsEmpty returns results for a single Variant variable.
