    Multiple linked dropdown Menus

    Hello Everyone,

I am new but am excited to help and get help.

I have been working on a spreadsheet for a while to calculate to perform certain calculations easily without have to look up much data. I have collected over a 1000 rows of various thread types and would like to be able to easily look them up on a different page. I have tried validation and little programming but cannot seem to get it to work.

There are four columns i need linked, SIZE, TPI, SERIES and CLASS
The person has a choice of 77 different sizes, which correlate, to various TPI, SERIES, and CLASSES.

I need to be able to have a 4 drop down menus so a user can choose one of the 77 sizes then there will be probably 2-4 different choices of TPI, then 1-7 different choices of series and 5 choices of class all correlating together.

when combined it will narrow down the selection to a specific row and then I need 6 different columns which correlate to the selection to be inserted into specific cells.

This is easily done if someone did auto filter then copied the cells or manually typed them into there respective places but I want he sheet to be easier to handle.

I would be more then happy to send you a copy of the spreadsheet if you shoot me an email or let me know that you would like one. Please let me know how horrible of an explanation I did and I will be glad to try again and answer questions. Thanks so much

    Dan

Hi Dan, and welcome to the forum.

This site provides a nice guide to creating "dependent drop-down lists" using Data Validation. There's also a link at the top of the page for creating Dynamic Lists rather than using static ranges for your lists (in case you ever add/remove items, the drop-down will automatically update).

Take a look and let us know if you need further assistance with that.

Also, once the drop-downs are selected, you should be able to reference them in the other six cells using VLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH or similar formulas to get the appropriate values for those cells.

    Re: Multiple linked dropdown Menus

I have seen that website before and I think I have gone through it like 8 times, I can get the first and second column validation to work but when trying to linke the 3rd column to the first two I run into trouble.

    Thanks
