Excel 2007 does not highlight selected cells

My Excel 2007 does not highlight selected cells as I understand it should. I have tried to find an Option setting to solve this but no luck. It works OK at my office desktop but not on my laptop. Can someone help me correct this very useful requirement to see what cells were selected.

It does, it's just subtle, and depending on your display, maybe way too subtle.

It's a pretty common complaint, and there is no setting to change it.

Thanks for your reply. You are right. The problem ocurred with my external monitor.
I checked how Excel looks on the laptop's monitor, and there was no problem on the laptop. I could see the highlighted range.
Hence I investigated the settings on my external LG monitor. Shure enough, when I reduced the contrast ratio on the monitor to about 50% I was able to see that the selected range was indeed highlighted with very light blue and I was also able to see much more clearly the gridlines.
