    Charts in XL2010

    Hi,
Just wondering if anyone knows if marco recording of chart manipulation has been reintroduced in XL2010?

JB, some ... I've read in a blog post on Jon Peltiers site (from around July 09 when he discusses the first pre-release of 2010) that all charting activities are recorded again with the macro recorder in 2010.

Playing around with it, though, I've noticed that this is not necessarily true. I have not had enough time to dig deeper, though, and can't substantiate my claim. Here is a macro that I just recorded in 2010 (senseless formatting, don't try this at home!)

I think in 2007 some of the above would not have appeared.

    Thanks very much Teylyn,

As far as I can tell, most (if not all) of the code above would not be recorded in XL07.
I certainly haven't had much luck trying to manipulate charts with VB in XL07.

It'd be great to get this back again - I typically learn VB by recording and tinkering and have been stymied since upgrading to 07.

If you have the bandwidth to download 2010 beta, go for it. it's 700 MB, but I like it much better than 2007. It loads faster and it's a lot less .... errhmmm "temperamental", "bitchy", "bi-polar" ....

Just make sure you install it side by side with your current Excel version (keep existing Office applications) and read the fine print ...

Just as an FYI, the Beta fixes the issue that the RC version had where it would mess up macro recording in earlier versions if installed alongside them on a system, thankfully.

r., can you confirm that 2010 does not record all chart activities, though? I recorded something the other day, to do with axes, but the macro came up empty. Can't seem to reproduce this behaviour right now ...

I can't claim to have seen it miss anything myself - was it the RC or the Beta that did that? I also haven't seen any reports of it but then, I haven't spent any time in the Beta forums (remiss of me I know) and I suspect most people are so happy to have something back, they may not worry about any minor blips!
