    Working with Merged cells

Couldn't find another post about this so hope I am not re-posting an already answered question.

I am trying to auto format some merged cells within a sheet based on the information in them.

Anyone know how to reference the information within theses cells?

    Thanks

Basically, you should avoid using Merged Cells. They are one item MS should remove from Excels features.

Are you using Conditional Formatting? Why not attach an example workbook?
    Hope that helps.

    hi Timtrag12,

    Welcome to the Forum

Merged cells are not recommended as they can cause all sorts of problems in spreadsheets. Are merged cells really necessary in your spreadsheet?

Here are some links & info that may help you:

(Shows how you can loop through all merged cells on a sheet)

    Excel 2007 VBE Help Files
    Range.MergeArea Property
Returns a Range object that represents the merged range containing the specified cell. If the specified cell isn’t in a merged range, this property returns the specified cell. Read-only Variant.

To help us help you further (if the above is not enough info), can you please upload an example file with "before & after" & explanation?
Edit: I posted before seeing Roy's posts, but repetition is the key - a sample file will make things much easier...

    Thanks, Guys

I can do it with conditional formatting, as you suggested and it is working fine. Just got myself caught in wanting to use code since I was doing other things with it.

I will post sample code in the future so that it is easier to receive help as well.

You should only use VBA when necessary, always use Excel's built-in features first
